Mirzapur district of Uttar Pradesh is identified as the most disadvantaged area by National Planning Commission among the 150 districts in India. Majhwan Cluster is located around 25 kms from District Head Quarter. Around 25% of the Majhawan populace is SC / ST. The area has around 1300 Self Help Groups (SHGs) involved in Zari, Carpet / Dari, Saree work. Work Pattern in area also include farming and animal husbandry. The project "Information & Communication Technology (ICT) Interventions for Livelihood Enhancement & Development through Women SHGs" is an initiative to provide ICT based solutions for development and livelihood & knowledge enhancement in Majhawan block. A Resource Center (ICTRC) with requisite hardware & software has been setup in the block for the purpose.
