NeGD is currently inviting applications for the position of Data Engineer cum Database Administrator on a contractual basis for a period of one year, which may be further extended based on the requirements of the project.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain the NDCS data warehouse and entity-relationship (ER) model for unified coastal shipping data
• Build and manage ETL pipelines using Apache Airflow / Apache NiFi for automated ingestion, transformation, and loading of data from maritime systems, including e-Samudra, MSW, LRIT, IWAI PANI, PCS, and CAR-D
• Configure and manage PostgreSQL and PostGIS databases for structured storage of vessel, voyage, cargo, license, and spatial data
• Perform data profiling, data quality checks, and validation to ensure accuracy and consistency of integrated datasets
• Develop and manage data pipelines for historical data (minimum 3–5 years) to support trend analysis, forecasting, and KPI reporting
• Optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and parallel processing
• Manage database installation, configuration, clustering, and migration in both clustered and non-clustered environments
• Implement database security measures, backup and recovery strategies, and disaster recovery plans
• Develop and maintain metadata and data dictionaries (e.g., IMO_Number, Voyage_ID, Cargo_Weight, Port_ID) for consistent KPI calculation
• Provide GIS-enabled data support (GeoJSON / lat-long) for spatial analytics and route visualisation on the NDCS platform
• Support analytics and BI teams by enabling data warehouse access and Power BI integration via SQL
• Collaborate with backend developers to integrate data pipelines with NDCS microservices and API layers
• Assist in the development of technical documentation and data architecture guidelines
