NeGD is currently inviting applications for the position of VP / Head of Engineering on a contractual basis, initially for a period of 3 years, which is further extendable as per the requirements of the project.

Responsibilities

  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap for the engineering organization, aligning architecture decisions with business priorities
  • Lead, mentor, and scale engineering teams (20–50+ engineers) across backend, platform, and data functions, including hiring and performance management
  • Drive microservices-based, cloud-native architecture (AWS/Azure/GCP) that scales to high QPS / large MAU workloads
  • Champion the integration of AI/ML and LLM-based capabilities (e.g., GPT-class models) into product experiences
  • Partner with Product, Design, and Business teams to translate roadmaps into technical execution plans with clear timelines
  • Establish and enforce engineering best practices: CI/CD, code quality, security (PCI-DSS/data privacy where relevant), and observability
  • Own infrastructure cost efficiency (COGS) and drive optimization initiatives across cloud spend
  • Represent engineering in customer, investor, and leadership conversations; communicate technical trade-offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Manage vendor/partner technology relationships and evaluate build-vs-buy decisions
  • Foster a culture of ownership, technical excellence, and continuous learning across the org.

About National e-Governance Division (NeGD)

The National e-Governance Division (NeGD) is an independent business division under the Digital India Corporation, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. NeGD has been playing a pivotal role in supporting MeitY in Programme Management and implementation of e-Governance projects and initiatives undertaken by various Ministries/ Departments, both at the Central and State levels.

NeGD has been spearheading several innovative initiatives under the aegis of the Digital India Programme. Those have been developed keeping the vision areas of Digital India at the core- providing digital infrastructure as a core utility to every citizen, governance and services on demand and in particular, digital empowerment of the citizens of our country; some of these initiatives include DigiLocker, UMANG, Poshan Tracker, OpenForge Platform, API Setu, National Academic Depository, Academic Bank of Credits, Learning Management System.
